Can someone help me understand the best way to power or charge my electronics ( Cell phone, Laptop, etc) from my van?
I'm looking at some solar battery chargers, power inverters, and installing second batteries and I'm wondering what is the best combination off these things to be thinking about.
a couple items I was looking at >>> www.4lots.com/index.asp
and >>> www.4lots.com/index.asp

Re: The Power!
Mon, November 14, 2005 - 8:49 PMWell..........
I'm not an electrical expert or anything as I've not even started to think about powering my entertainment system in the DH but I know for sure you best get an idea of how much wattage your laptop/cell phone etc needs to recharge. Get a solid idea of how long it takes to recharge these items; how many watts they use up and so on. Sometimes those solar units aren't enough for the power hungry monsters we use. Because of these, I'll not have an average desktop on my bus-they use too much juice.
Plus sometimes these solar units need a big battery bank just to help you charge items. May I suggest for a faster response ask the solar power people on tribe here this same question adding those links to see what response you get.
Good luck -

Re: The Power!
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 6:47 PMWell I dug and found this old msg which makes me realize just how far behind I am in messing w/ FV. Anyway, I thought I'd let everyone know that I am serious, SERIOUSLY thinking of putting solar in my bus as suppose to a generator. A small backup to run the stuff I don't have on the regular battery is all I really need/want. I don't plan on putting the usual RV stuff in my ride as that would take it forever on my part.
I picked up the book "RVers guide to solar battery charging" from RVsolarelectric.com to research possibly purchase the complete system from these people. I've heard good things about them so they have my interest. I'm thinking with what I want on FV (fridge/stove/water heater/free standing swamp cooler), that a solar system w/ 4 batteries should be enough if all aren't running at once. Still requiring some planning so I'll keep ya posted the closer I get to installing the separate electrical system.
