Hey folks,
I'm about to install a bamboo floor in a MC-8, a late 70's MCI coach bus. Does anyone have any helpful ideas for this process. I haven't pulled up the linoleum yet but I believe it has a 3/4" plywood subfloor. If anyones got any experience with any tips they picked up along the way it would be most appreciated.

Thanks

my own conversion plan.

so, my idea is this: I have a 1985/86 Toyota EFI pickup...it's a small one, but it's a 1 ton. the bed & tailgate are getting pretty beaten up, & the engine need some serious love, as the people I got it from are what I like to call Automotively Retarded...anywhoo, what I plan is to remove the bed, replace it with a flatbed, & build it into a gypsy caravan-styled motor home, complete with kitchenette, wood stove, toilet, cabinetry, convertable furniture, & cabover master bed. I will have to look into figuring out how long I can make it without chassis modification, but I am hoping for 12 to 16 feet. & will be insulated & appointed for 4 season use, as I fully intend it's primary function to be for snowboarding trips & summer camping trips. I will post updates as the project progresses.

place to park our home!

Hello,

We are looking for a lot somewhere in the Portland area to park our converted bus to live in. We are willing to pay 250$-300$ a month.

What we are looking for:

Preferably someplace we could have a garden. We would need to come and go about 2 or 3 times a month to empty septic. We would also like to find a place power was available. We are also looking for some level of privacy so we would probably not be interested in a side lot of a house....but we will entertain possibilities

Who we are:

We are an engaged couple getting married in May and will be bringing our bus from Fairbanks Alaska. Jason is employed as a Carpenter doing residential remodeling and new homes, and Heidi works as a preschool teacher. We are quite and not into crazy parties. We prefer our company to be over dinner and music.

When we are looking for the space:

We are getting married in mid May and would be looking for a place late May early June.

Please feel free to email us if you have something you think we might be interested in.

jmorgan@riseup.net

Skoolie Art Questions

Hi
My name is Ryan and I am a college student at the University of Minnesota. I’m doing some research on modified school buses for a class I am taking on folk art, and stumbled upon this group.

I am very interested what I have seen already, but was wondering if I could pose a few questions to the group to minimize my speculation and fill in some gaps in my knowledge base.

Please, anyone, feel free to answer these questions. I’d love to hear any and all opinions from people who make all sorts of modifications.

1.What are your reasons for modifying old school buses?
2.What makes a really great skoolie?
3.What makes a really bad one?
4.What made you personally pursue the type of modification that you did?
5.Where did you get the idea to make a skoolie?
6.Did you think up the details yourself or use a plan?
7.Do any of your friends that you regularly see have skoolies as well? Or is it mainly this online community?

I really appreciate any feedback that you can offer this budding student of skoolie culture. Additionally, if you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Howdy folks

My name is Patrick. I buy and sell buses and bus parts to fund my non profit work. You can check it out at http://www.fresnoalliance.com/wheelchairproject

I have sold many buses to tribe folks, and others doing creative things with the machinery.

It is one of my nicest buses, a 1974 Gillig that is almost flawless. It has a healthy 3208 CAT diesel with a 5 speed, good rubber, and EVERYTHING works like all buses I sell.

If you wanna see it or pass the info onto a friend, it's on Craig's List, here is the link

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/435500436.html

Ok that's it. Anybody got any questions, just give me a call. My number is at the end of the ad.

Stepvan/Chiptruck conversion to RV

so, the story goes like this...My Dad & Brother own a distribution route for a local Potato Chip company, Tim's Cascade. for years, they ran the route out of a Gruman stepvan...it died, so they replaced it with another Gruman, a Diesel Dually retired Frito Lay truck. last year, after the rear end differential going out for like the 3rd or 4th time in 2 months, my brother, who was running the operation solo by now due to my Dad being forced to retire from diabetes-related disabilities, decided to retire the chiptruck in favor of a new utility trailer to tow behind his brand new Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi V8. so, the Gruman sat a few months ignored, when one day my brother comes up with the idea of eventually, over the course of a year or so, converting it. he bought a cab-over camper to use in the meantime, & I got one that was damaged but usable to eventually gut for the conversion...the project pretty much went totally cold...& then, this May, after deciding to go back to college for Environmental Sciences & Sustainable Living Systems, my roommate & brother's girlfriend, Paula, came to an impass while trying to find an affordable housing situation near her new school...after a few weeks of nothing stacked on nothing, the idea sparked & went inferno in the course of an hour...she would convert & live in the chiptruck, thereby resolving her housing issue & also providing her with her Thesis for her degree, as she is planning in stages to convert it to Biodiesel & then eventually straight veggie oil. you can view her journal & photos of the conversion here:

http://www.chiptruck.blogspot.com

she is progressing rapidly & will be living in it full time by September 24th. it's pretty amazing to see.

Back to work-FV slowly getting worked on

This past year I took time off working on FV to get my own self straighten up. Extra weight + health problems=no work on bus. How I managed to do as much as I did is some kinda blessing from Hermes! Anyway, I did finally finish those wheel well covers and boy they look spiffy! Getting the right tool to measure carefully (3x then cut) made a BIG difference on how fast I completed the job. Lack of $$ also slows/haults me but that is ok-hurry isn't a big factor for me and I purchased a tent to feed my outdoors need :)

So now, as I'm thinking about the end in sight of that damned floor, thoughts like framing, wiring, where to put what keep popping back up. I'm decided, I think I said here already to put in a wood-stove for heating keeping the propane for running the fridge, stove/oven & tankless water heater. I also need some kind of outside storage unit and the "where to put it" was kinda of tricky until I figured out that right under the floor behind the diesel tank would work great. As for the water tanks...hm..I have one 55 gal drum that would make a great tank (second one would be even better) its just figuring out how to connect the two, mount them securely while still keeping room for the grey/black water tank.

I still want a porch. How to do it AND have a hitch for the horse trailer is the tricky part :)

when i first got wind of this i googled it. while i did find prolific postings about why it couldn't work or wouldn't work i could find not one single instance of anyone who ACTUALLY TRIED it. so i put it to my yahoo group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/schoolbusconversionuts ( 2700 members) which is the original ( first) and largest internet skoolie group. as it turns out it has worked for at least one of my members and another is testing it now with a recent traffic ticket. so ir-regardless of what the potentates say it may very well be true. it may just be suppressed info. i can see NO reason to not try it if you get a ticket. if you do try it let people know either way.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A TRAFFIC TICKET:

This advice was sent by a retired State Farm agent! This system has been tried and it works in every state.

If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light, or
whatever the case may be, you're going to get points on your
license and a surcharge on your auto insurance. This is a method to insure that you DO NOT get the points.

When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is $79.00 make the check out for $82.00, some small amount over the fine. The system will then have to send you back a check for the difference. However, here is the trick: DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it away!

Points are not assessed to your license until all Financial
Transactions are complete. If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are NOT complete. The system! has received its money and is satisfied and will no longer bother you.

This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets up the standard databases used by every state.

Send this to everyone you know. You never know when they may need a break.

Vandalized my Bus

Someone vandalized Fantastic Voyage while she was on the street. Stabbed the front passenger tire 4x before making a connection. Of course NOT being an cookie cutter RV I had to call the semi-truck mobile tow folks. Now, I have never messed with FV's tires so I know they were rusty to begin with. Took the two guys wacking and WD-40ing her nearly 1/2 hour to get the rim off but only 2 mins to find the hole in the tube. So on top of their fee to come out and the repair fee is now adding on the new inner tube.

Needless to say I am beyond frustrated and angry about this. Why did someone do this? It is not like I have the $$ extra to spend on something so costly. Well, I know why they did it-for fun and laughs no doubt. I hope they get theirs paid in Karmic dept. I'd cry but I know tears aren't going to get FV fixed.

Well with winter on its way it'll be cold for most folks (save for us living in So. calif non mountain area). However, I plan on doing some winter camping next time so instead of propane, I've opt for what I have in my house-a cast iron stove. This one is marine built so it should work out better w/ a moving vehicle. Already comes with holes in the floor. I just like it all around even if the price is serious OUCH factor. I chose this one because the next bus I built will be much larger thus require more heat and also I didn't bother with insulating FV either.

"The Gift of the Turbi", a (post) holiday classic

There was a man, a young man of good heart and character, and he had a bus that he loved. The bus was the shiny yellow and black apple of his eye, and their love was complete. He veritably lived inside of her, caressing her ample bumpers and buying her all manners of distilled waters and fancy spray paints.

And she loved him too; she loved him as strongly as a bus could love a man, that tall (10 feet) long legged (35 feet) 19,000 lb lady from Hayward, and things were good.

She was a comely bus, old fashioned values and smog, and was blessed by the lord with the gift of turbo, a lovely tress of curly cast iron that adorned her intake manifiold like a jewel in a Princess' tiara. It was their pride and her joy.

And the man also possessed one thing of great sentimental and personal value: a classic turbo boost sphygomometer given to him by his grandfather, a toxic filled graduated glass and brass mercury tube of wonderful complexity that he would lovingly plumb into his beloved when he wanted to see her smile. On sundays they would go to the park and he would gently lift her covers one by one, and there they would sit, whiling away the hours in the joy that only lovers share.

The couple was poor, and didn't drink the finest Rotella, nor could afford Michelins on the table except during special occasions. And then one year, the Saint Valentine's Day holiday approached, and they were both left in a quandary, how could this poor bus and man properly show their love on this special occasion?

Finally February 14th arrived, and after a hard day at the yard, the man came home to find his beloved bride sitting, parked near the one ton, behind the trailer, near the stack of pallets where he stored the brake drums and the power steering pumps, with tears/condensation in her headlights, but still shining the most lumenous of glows towards her chosen seat taker. And the man excitedly approached her, cleverly concealing a package from his beloved's low beams.

(break for commercial)

(Scene returns to idyllic backyard full of bus parts and Japanese and American pickups)

"Look my dear" he cried, "I have the finest of gifts for the bus that has been my veritable foundation of transportation for so many wonderful years." And from under his cloak, he produced a box. And there, inside the box was a lovely air heat exchanger from Cummins in Paris, painted beautiful flat black and glowing with a non reflective dullness that shone like the night. (with all necessary connectors and fasteners, and a roll of pink teflon tape)

"Oh my Goodness", she screamed in joy, "how could you ever have brought to me such a precious and costly gift my love?" She began to sigh, and with tears now welling up in her turn signals, she said "We are but a poor couple, rich in maintenance but with a limited parts budget..."

"Well" he replied, "my love for you springs internal, just like your fuel lines, and I confess I sold the turbo boost gage to get the lovely part. but it is OK, we can do it by ear my sweet, love can conquer any vaccuum problem."

And then he spotted a splendidly wrapped box sitting on the dash. "Is that for me my love?" he asked. "A gift from the bus whose broad hips and leaf spring suspension has seen me thru my longest travels and darkest hours... I can't wait to open it!"

He carefully separated the twine, removed the paper, and gently lifted the lid off the box. And there inside was a 3/16" thru 7/8" SAE and metric adapter set for classic sphygamometers, lovingly hand chromed from Taiwan.

And then tears began to well up in his eyes, as he walked, slowly, to the side (driver's side, door behind the radiator door) of his beloved, and lifted her skirts gently for the thousandth time.

For he knew the truth already........ . . . there in place of her lovely turbo was a simple metal plate, her chestnut colored curl now nothing more than a 5 X 8 piece of aluminum or cast or pot metal or something, (it had paint on it) and her flowing manifolds had been shorn to the scalp.

And as they looked at each other, and felt the love and tender mercies that only a long time committed driver and machine can hold dear, and nurture thru the years,-- there was peace, and then they drove, hand in wheel, down to Flying J for a quiet, intimate fill.

And life was good, and love had flourished and flew and soared for a brief minute on God's Green Earth.

("The Gift of the Turbi", a holiday classic)
available on CD and cassette

Howdy folks

I just got some more buses. All diesel, nothing over 4500 dollars, all with warranty.

Two have automatics, all the rest are 5 or ten speed manuals.

Just give me a yell if you know anyone who needs a bus or any bus part

Thanks

Call For Makers!

Dear Makers,

We are pleased to announce Bay Area Maker Faire 2007!

Organized by the staff of MAKE and CRAFT magazines, Maker Faire is a newfangled fair that brings together science, art, craft an engineering in a fun, energized, and exciting public forum. The aim is to inspire people of all ages to roll up their sleeves and become makers. This family-friendly event showcases the amazing work of all kinds of makers--anyone who is embracing DIY and wants to share their accomplishments with an appreciative audience. Last year, we had 20,000 people at Maker Faire.

Maker Faire Bay Area will take place May 19-20, 2007 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. We are also adding Maker Faire Austin for October 20-21, 2007 at the Travis County Fairgrounds. This call is primarily for Maker Faire Bay Area but you can indicate if you are interested in participating in Maker Faire Austin.

We encourage you to join the fun and propose a maker exhibit, performance or workshop. You can submit a proposal through the web using the link described below or you can come show us your work at a Maker Faire "audition" on Saturday, February 24 at TechShop in Menlo Park, CA.

http://www.makerfaire.com

Proposals: We invite proposals for Maker workbench exhibits, workshops, presentations and performances for the Maker Faire. We are interested in proposals from individuals as well as from groups such as hobbyist clubs and schools.

Maker Workbench: Our standard setup for Makers is a six-foot long workbench. You can use this workbench to display your work and/or demonstrate how you make something. Some makers don't need workbenches, typically because they have a large object or they set up outside. Please provide a short description of what you make and what you will bring to Maker Faire. Please link to photographs or videos of what you make. Let us know about any requirements you have, such as electricity, Internet, ventilation, etc.

Interactive Performance: We're seeking performances that will engage and entertain the attendees and enable them to interact in a fun way. The performances may be tied to a stage or roving through the fairgrounds as a kind of street theatre. Performances could be musical or theatrical, but they could also be a collaborative building process. For example, you might work with attendees to put something large together in an hour.

Presentation: These includes audio-visual presentations intended for showing a project (or process) that cannot be brought to the faire, or a special project that requires AV resources. These presentations are limited to 20 minutes. Please describe the topic of your presentation and what kind of media (audio/video) that you will have. As a general rule, PowerPoint presentations are not appropriate for this event unless they are unusually entertaining.

Demonstration Workshop: A demonstration workshop is a show-and-tell session on how to make something. We're looking for makers who can demonstrate (and teach) particular skills, techniques or processes. You should start off by explaining your materials and tools and then step-through a build process, sharing your knowledge and interacting with the audience. Sessions should be under 30 minutes in length and may be repeated on the program. Please describe the subject of your workshop and what kind of setup you need for it.

Application Form: Please go to the following URL and fill it out to apply for participation as a maker. http://makerfaire.com/bayarea/2007/proposal/

All proposals will be reviewed and we will notify makers of acceptance via email by March 19, 2007.

NOTE: Presenters whose talks are accepted will receive free registration to Maker Faire. We cannot pay for travel and accommodations. (We do make exceptions under some circumstances.) If you have any questions about participating in Maker Faire, please contact Natalie Villalobos by email: info@makerfaire.com. Please let Natalie know if you plan to come to the audition at TechShop.

Key Points:

* Maker Proposal Due: Midnight (PST): Feb. 27, 2007
* Maker Faire Bay Area Audition: Saturday Feb. 24, 2007
Veggie bus on Ebay

Hey bus villagers

We've been hit with financial trouble like crazy and are selling our school bus to get out of debt again. She is the sweetest bus ever and we are totally bummed to see her go, but we see no other way.

Although we poured over $20,000 into the interior, upgrades, and SVO system, we listed on Ebay for $5,000 item #220074616955 . It's a steal for a converted school bus with great SVO system. As a matter of fact, we payed just over $5,000 for the veggie system alone 8 months ago.

Even to buy an bus and convert it youself would cost more, so pass on the info to anyone wanting to live and travel rainbow style this year.

A platform bed with lots of storage underneath, dresser, wardrobe, little bathroom with composting toilet, kitchen counter, van seat couch that pulls out into a bed, rocking chair, bookshelves, etc. She's painted a rosy tan and covered in handprints.
Stranded in Berkeley

Hey everyone, sorry I just joined tribe today so my profile is lacking, but I also have a profile at www.myspace.com/starrdst81. Anyways, I sold everything and went to Burning Man determined to start a new way of life that was in tune with my beliefs and values. I travelled to San Francisco after the burn and realized that it was not a city where you could just "crash" by finding cool people. Anyways, that's all good. So I got an RV which seemed like a good deal, but it had been sitting for awhile and there have been several problems since then and now I'm stranded on King St. and Ashby in Berkeley and any day the city is going to tow me away. So my post is two fold. Does anyone know a good mechanic that could come to my RV? Also, does anyone own or know of someone who owns a patch of land - a parking space or piece of yard that's not being used, etc. . . where I could park my RV for a rental cost? I don't need any connections. I'm really desperate at this point and am hoping there are people in this area as helpful as they were at Burning Man. I'm trying to get involved in the wonderful things going on here but have a hard time doing that without a steady living situation. So if you also know of anyone with a room for rent or something like that, please let me know. And if you just want to hang out, that would be cool too!
Thanks!

Radiator leak - additive, repair, replace?

I just noticed a leak in my radiator. Haven't had a chance to get it checked out, but I'm seeing a dark stain on the bottom two inches or so of the radiator fins extending all the way across, and a thin layer of radiator fluid that's collected on the plate just below the radiator. Since I'm not able to schlep my bus out of where it's parked for at least another 2 weeks to get it looked at, I'm exploring my options and possible outcomes.

One outcome could very well be replacement, and I'm wondering what a new radiator should run (ballpark) with and without labor for installation.

Another option may be waterglass or some similar additive that seals leaks when it encounters air. I'm a little concerned about the long-term effects an additive might have on the rest of the cooling system. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

Is there any reason why removing the rear heater and associated lengths of hose would have contributed to a leak in the radiator, like maybe it altered the pressure levels in the system somehow?

I need to bring my baby home from Portland to Northern California in a couple of weeks, and will have to address the leak on my way out of town. Thanks for any input and advice. Also, if there's anyone in the Portland area who's got enough know-how to figure out where & why the leak's there, and who'd be willing to take a look, I'd appreciate a tutorial on the cooling system!

Cheers,
Valerie

Well, wheel wells are done only need to be attached to the floor and body. I purchased some flooring from Costco; its bamboo and clickable. Needs an underlayment which is not a problem as I've been laying 1/8 inch cork down. However I'm stuck as to how it will stay together. Maybe I need those strips like what was holding the black rubber down?

Anyway, next weekend is a BIG project. Gonna paint her-if I have to see that sick looking yellow any more I'll scream. Plus the new paint job will energize me more to do the harder projects like plumping and making the propane box, etcs.

Hello fellow bus enthusiast's, my name is Eric and I'm new to the game. I've got a bus, a dream, and friends willing to help. My only question, for now, and this will probably be very obvious to most of you, is this: "How tall can I build/pack my bus and still make it down the highway?" Do I need to carefully plan my route or is it as easy as taking every exit in order to avoid overpasses?

I'll take pictures of my project and post them over the weekend.

Thanks in advance,
NY Times: Many Americans turning to In House Prostitution

Recently, due to stress and rising oil prices, men have increasingly turned to lap dances and prostitutes for relief, and if projections are correct, it appears 2007 will be a boom year for the industry. Yet over 2/3 of all Americans maintain inadequate savings, and often carry debt load at levels nearing negative cash flow.

The good news? A researcher in Fresno, California may have found the solution: In home prostitution.

Utilizing this revolutionary new method, the husband simply contracts with the wife at the prevailing wage rate for a Rim of Fire, Backward Cowgirl, etc. The wife contracts to put on hot lingerie, spend at least 2 hours studying the Playboy channel, print erotica, or other sanctioned materiale, and then have sex with the husband in a mutually agreed fashion, for an agreed upon hourly wage. The wife would act as an independent contractor, thereby no social security or employment taxes would be required.

It is 100% legal, proven effective in trials at 3 major universities, and has been written up extensively in both psychology and law enforcement journals.

Advantages of in home prostitution

1. With this scenario, all money is reinvested in the family.

2. Safe working conditions for the woman, less likelihood of robbery and assault for the man.

3. Transportation costs are negligible. Both customer and employee can walk to site.

4. Greatly reduced risk of HIV or sexually transmitted disease for both participants.

5. Small initial investment; 6 inch heels, garters, large round earrings, etc. are widely available at shopping malls, retail outlets, etc.

6. No possibility of legal entanglements, embarrassing stings, unwanted pregnancy or paternity issues.

Another unintended yet pleasant side effect of the use of this technique is that both partners have reported an increase in the quality and frequency of their sex lives and intimate relationships, and elevated levels of self esteem.

The Society for In-House Prostitution welcomes your participation in this ground breaking project.

Sincerely

This 38 ft beastie can't live in the backyard anymore as of the end of June, so we're looking for all decent options for its fate. Ideally we would donate it to a non-profit or find a peice of land that could use a ready-made home on it. It runs off WVO, but does not currently enjoy running due to electrical problems. The inside is the sweet part--it's got a double burner stove, an oven, huge bedroom and living room area, and lots of personality. The closer to Oakland this creative solution comes from, the better, but any ideas are welcome.

threw a rod...need input!

i drive a 1981 westfalia aircooled van....i love my van, i have lived in it for over a year now, and i am riding it very carefully on a thrown rod. it is parked, but i had to drive it down the coast from crescent city with this little problem, and am now in ukiah.

i called our local VW repairman who runs notoriously high, he quoted me $4,000 to rebuild my engine! it CAN'T be that much, can it...? i can get another westy in better shape for that kinda money! if i HAD that kind of money.

can anyone give me any input, ideas, links, 800 #'s so i can see if it's possible for me to salvage my honey or if i should look for another vehicle? my van has a new starter, new battery, new brakes and master cylinder, new alternator....all in the last couple months, so you can imagine my dismay at throwing a rod after investing so much in other parts for her general well-being. oh and i finally got a cassette player...even payed to get it installed right....GRRR!

thanks in advance for your help...:)

A bus or part purchased from me will guarantee better, more frequent orgasms, even when you're alone

Howdy Bus boys and Girls

"I remember my first orgasm. I tell ya, I was terrified. Hey whattya expect, I was all by myself" --the late great Rodney Dangerfield.
--------------------------------
I'm Patrick, the King of California Buses. There simply Is No Equal, so don't bother looking. I already know some of you. I was going to write a generic letter explaining my self, and reason for existence, but instead decided to amaze and delght you wth this litle bit of mirth I call "my latest ad on Ebay". Enjoy......

Here is the text of my new Ebay ad. Send it only to those who have courage and gentleness, strong backs and broad hips, or something like that. It is titled (to attract Fat Older White Men With Money) "FOR SALE: MY ATTRACTIVE WIFE AND BUS"
=================
Well, I'm actually only selling an "image" of my attractive wife now. EBay rejected my first ad, and the wife weren’t too pleased either. She got on her computer, went to EBay and listed me in Antiques, subcategory "Jerks" so I guess I got what I deserved.

So what am I really selling in this ad? Well, what’s it to you? Are you here to buy a very good high quality long lasting rugged and powerful diesel bus from me, or give me hard time? I would definitely do the former, because I have a terrible temper and poor emotional control in most situations (except when helping a grateful and satisfied customer with their high quality ultra durable best deal on the Net rugged and capable diesel bus, or parts.)

You can see all the buses I got, it's ridiculous at this point. I'm getting 3-4 more this month. So why would a otherwise sane person be doing this?? (selling buses, not wives) Well read on my son, read on.

I do this bus thing to support my fabulous non-profit, the Wheelchair Project. My wife and I went to Central America (that was my first wife, she ran away with one of my buses, a tall strapping young triple axle with a full head of hair and a devil may care Bad Boy attitude. I still see them around town now and then, and it still hurts) and had kids brought to us who were either very sick, going deaf, etc. and it was just from lack of very simple stuff like clean water, and medicines you could get at Wal-Mart for three bucks.

So, we either had a chance to face it, or act like we didn’t see it, so we decided to face it. So we helped raise 9000 bucks, and sent it to some scam artists who were supposed to be legitimate (Hey I DIDN”T choose these folks, the group did) and went we got to Nicaragua, the hospital hadn’t been destroyed, they never heard of us, and the only thing that got down there was the 15 boxes of supplies we hand carried, and little cases of ampicillin and penicillin we bought in Mexico City.

So after that, I decided to never give away the Do Rey Mee, but to go in person and at least check the stuff into the hospital, school, etc. Then if it got stolen it would still go into some person’s sick behind, or under some wheelchair needy person’s fanny (I send lots of wheelchair, so my thing is called the Wheelchair Project)

By now you may we thinking, “Is he ever gonna get to the bus for sale?”

Ok, I’ll start, but only after reminding you that I’m going to Haiti in about 2 months, gonna ship a Ford bus with a healthy CAT motor, full of the stuff the folks requested (school supplies, generators, Honda Trail 90 motorbikes, medical supplies, a copy machine, etc…..no junk or used clothing please!)

So when you buy a high quality near eternal timeless hand crafted bus of bliss from me, I will take said money and buy more stuff for the project, or bend over deeply then write the check to get the bus through the Panama Canal (6 Grand, oh I love it) or change the differential (the bus only goes 50) and drive it to Miami, great fun in a noisy front engine bus with a sheet of plywood/wall right behind the driver.

But enough about me. What do YOU think about my project?

OK you wanna bus, I gotta bus. How about a mid 70’s Gillig or Crown? Why these models you say? Because the are simply the best, unequalled in quality, and bonehead simple for boneheads like you (and your extended family) and me.

These buses were built by hand (both left AND right) and sold for over 100 thousand George Washingtons back in the day, and that was back when 20 bucks could buy you a Deusenberg or an entire politician. Kids nowadays, nothing but a bunch of lazy gang bangers, driving around with that loud “music” blasting….Boy I could just grab one of ‘em by the neck and squeeze until their eyes pop, but I can’t because I teach in the public schools (20 years of tears, laughter and spineless administrators)

OK I guess I’ll sell you the Crown bus I have. It is a good bus. It is very clean. It bathes regularly, goes to church on Saturday (I don’t know why either) and will give you years of love affection and loyalty.

It’s a 1970 Crown, with a healthy and happy 220 horsepower Cummins and a 5 speed transmission. (ONLY 220 horsepower in a 19,000 lb behemoth?) Yes, only 220 horsepower, but it produces it at about 1800 RPM, and would squash your SUV like the overpriced insect that it is, and just drive right on without even a glance back.) The engine is 743 cubic inches of six cylinder hell, built for torque, and will haul 15,000 lbs without even blinking a headlight. I know, I’ve done it a time or 8. The tires are good too. They are really. They are all Michelins, tubeless, with the biggest size on a bus, 12R x 22.5. (Are you bidding yet? I can hold for a minute while you do…)

The bus is almost perfect inside, and 100% original and stock like the day it left the factory. I’ve already put about 400 miles on this bus, and let me tell you, it towed perfectly behind the wrecker. But seriously, it’s a great bus, clean, starts and runs and drives like Rolls Royce, handles like a Ferrari, and gets better mileage than those new hybrid cars. I regularly get 40-42 miles per quart, and only fill up every third Leap Year, and even then these old engines will run on bathtub water, dirt, or old paint from your neighbor’s garage.

And if you’re one of this long haired wiseacres that smokes that stuff and thinks they know everything, then this bus can easily be converted to veggie oil. I have some young friends who smell vaguely like rotting cabbage, but they can convert a bus over to veggie faster than you can say pass the bong. But they’re only good until about 4:20 in the afternoon, then after that, park your bus and lock it.

But they will help you if you wanted to go veggie or biodiesel, I’m just too busy to explore the technology right now.

And I hope you realize that I’m not just selling This Bus alone. I am violating every rule made by God and EBay, and hoping they won't notice that I am trying to hustle everything I own with one ad. I’ve got other buses and lots of parts for sale. I even work on buses (once again a crappy way to make a buck, but you do meet lots of nice people, and their wives too if you play it right) and I learn from every job I do.

So write call, or just wire directly to my bank account in Zurich. It’s the one next to Jack Abramoff’s, right behind “Duke” Cunningham’s tear stained Certificates of Deposit.

OK feel free to call me off this site and help me evade EBay’s fees. They pay ABSOLUTELY NO ATTENTION to what I write anyway. Heck, I sold somebody’s mother in law to Liberia about 2 years ago, no problem, smooth transaction.

OK you can do one of the following:

1. Call me at home. (559) 251-3814

2. Write to my e-mail. It is WheelchairBusProject@yahoo.com

3. Go to my web site. That won’t accomplish anything, but nobody goes there, and my URL is lonely and depressed. It’s a good site, loads fast, etc. There are some pictures of my first wife there too, she’s the one holding the meat cleaver. It is www.fresnoalliance.com/wheelchairproject

4. Have some fun and write me going through (ugh) the traditional EBay channels. Then both you and the other folks who have endured this ad, and have way too much spare time, can read and enjoy my ridiculous answers to your attempted questions.

OK start bidding. There isn’t that much time. Don’t bid unless you really mean it though. I’ve suffered enough heartbreak and disappointment in life already, will be 50 in about two months, and just don’t need the hassle. But for those lucky few, bid now and bid high.

Bid for yourself, and bid to support the troops. Bid. Now. Bid bid bid bid bid. Get your wife involved. Heck it’s fun for the whole family. A bus looks good in the den or driveway, and can be used as a temporary holding facility for your oldest daughter and her boyfriend when he gets out of jail.

Ok gotta go, the wife’s waking up.
So BID, bid now, and bid high, …………………because If You Don’t bid, the terrorists will have won.

ok..so i want to paint the outside of the bus...not all trippy, just flat probably red and black. i also want to paint the inside trim (i have a opium poppy theme inside, so black trim inside). what kind of paint do i use on the outside, how do i stop rust spots, and what kind of paint on the inside that will dry pretty fast since i live in the bus? do i have to take off the original safety blue crud?

now, i have over 200,000 miles on my engine....which runs like a striped assed ape, but still. the engine was rebuilt at 80,000 miles, so i am running on about 130,000 miles right now. it's a FANTASTIC engine, oil leaks (seals on the right) and all...but i am considering an overhaul. should i get an overhaul, or just have it rebuilt again? part of me thinks the world is going to change soon to the point that gas will be obsolete and incredibly unsustainably expensive, so i might want to save for a deisel and convert eventually....but again, i need to get around reliably till the revolution and can't afford to convert right now. my van is an air-cooled '81 westy.

the last question....any mechanic recommendations for humboldt, oregon areas? i am roadtripping back and forth for the next month or so and need someone fair and good. can't afford a lot of money but i need a few repairs....one being a new front windshield, as well as seals fixed on the right. i could also use a back windsheild, but not a priority unless i can get a really good deal for both.

gracias!

i'm looking for an alternative way of heating my bus. thought about a wood stove. from some of the pix i've seen, some of you have them. where did you find them? I've heard that cast steel is better in a bus than cast iron because the iron can be brittle, or can bust in sudden stops. does anyone know of a good source for them that wont cost an arm or leg? thanx

Howdy Folks

My name is Patrick Young, I live in Fresno. I've been doing buses for the last 15 years, and have dismantled 14 (11 Gilligs, one Crown and two Fords) I have lots of experience in machinery in general, and diesel stuff. I have about 22 buses right now, about 15 run and eight are for parts
I sell my stuff cheap. I just use the money to fund my non profit work in Haiit, Mexico, and Central America, and I started collecting and dismantling buses just to send them as spares for the donated bus, and to keep mine running, then sorta got carried away. I can't resist buying stuff,I have about ten generators and just keep on buying 'em. Love 'em I do, .....or anything that runs and makes noise,it's all iinteresting to this child like mind.....

Ok just drop me a line. and have a good day enjoying the springtime

Howdy

Some of you know me already. I am Patrick Young, the Fresno teacher who uses buses to haul relief aid to progressive groups under fire in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Shcipas, Mexico and lately Haiti.

If you want a good bus, 100% intact and no BS or hidden problems, give me a call or an email.

Without bragging, no one will give you a better bus, nor better service and advice for as long as you own you Quendd of the road.

I've owned over 60 Crown and Gillig buses, dismantled 14, and have an unlimited supply of on hand knowledge and parts too. I even let folks return the bus in the first 30 days (undamaged) and you can either get your month back or a different bus. It's OK I don’t sell any bad buses, so someone else will just buy it later.

have a good one

Greetings Family,
I have created a web page(with loving help from my brother) that features the "Rainbow Family Circus & Tribal Zoo" music recordings from 2000-2005. This page includes the original CD covers, song notes, and a bit of insight into this ongoing music project. There are links to each song to listen and/or download as you wish. The music links take you to the www.archive.org web site where the songs are already uploaded. This music is magic and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have. Thank you to all that have contributed over the years!
Pass the word and may your ears tickle
---tenali---
ps the page was also translated into spanish, and so pass the message onto those that may not speak english.

I was doing yet another of my web searches and found the "tribe" . I converted an 83 Chevy bluebird with an 8.2 Detroit diesel and Allison 4 speed auto tranny. The conversion project took about 3 months all together and I have had it out camping 4 times last year and everything works fine. Its a camper, not a live in, so it only has the basics, frige, beds...and of course, the entertainment center. I have an online photo album showing my conversion project at http://tinyurl.com/cdztd

so our 89 thomas body/international diesel engine bus has always run smoothly. it ran fine about 2 months ago, when we last cranked her up, but today we went to move her to a new home and she huffed and puffed, finally turned over, then cut out again. now she cranks but wont start. we are going to talk to a mechanic monday, but i sure would love to hear if anyone has any insights now. unfortunately we are not super engine savy(as you can see) but my hubby is a right clever guy and can follow most any clearly presented directions or advice. i am afraid that mice may have penetrated and violated her. someone brighten my weekend?

I am looking at a few buses and would love to talk with some folks that are living in there bus. If anyone is in the L.A. area I would like to see what you have done. I have seen a lot of pics that get me excited but I need to see the real thing and ask some real and practical questions. like parking, driving, veggi-oil conversions etc.
So let me know what you got-
Thanks

Diesel Power

Hey kids [and old farts] I wanted to drop in and do a little shameless advertising for my new tribe.

Its called Diesel and/or Diesel Power and its going to deal with all the new advancement in diesel technologies and alternative diesel fuels expanding on both renewable and non-renewable fuel sources.

Since the rise of the price of a barrell of oil and the well muffled general panic that is coming primarily from Suadi Arabia we are looking at a energy shortage. Nobody knows exactly when, but the oil companies themselves are starting to look for alternatives, considering it was the oil companies themselves who had stiffled any other alternatives this is a good sign.

Unfortunatly some of the solutions in the pipeline for the future, arent necessarily the cleanest most environmentally friendly options available and some others take waste products and turn them into clean burning alternatives. They do however address the need for cheap energy and if they can be scaled more easily than cleaner alternatives we could find ourselves on the same pickle in a different barrell.

The purpose of the tribe is to be informative, so that we all become better informed on what is out there as these other not so clean alternatives pop up. I have some really interesting {or at least I think its interesting} stuff posted already as well as have some contributions coming in.

I think we all know that bio-diesel will not be able to sustain our demands for fuel. But would you believe you could make diesel from waste woodchips and mix in a little bio-d for lubricity and whammo, you have a clean fuel and you help reduce the waste stream.

Anyways I hope that you will join, there are many very interesting topics to discuss and information to share.

Looking for help and ideas

When my mother passed away earlier this year one of the things that I inherited was her business. My mother ran a resale shop/farmers market booth. The items available were a pretty eclectic mix of items. When I came home to help her out we started to work on being slightly more specific in the customers we catered to. The direction we took was based on both her interests and my own. Specifically we started selling more items along the lines of New Age and Indian/Southwest style items. After my mother passed away I closed her store while I got her affairs and my life in order. Recently I’ve been getting my mind around the idea of re-opening her store with some changes. Instead of being strictly a farmers market type of operation I’ve been looking at something more in line with a retail style business.

Having said that I’d like to ask for some help and ideas. I’m looking at keeping in the direction of New Age items and possibly Southwest as well. I’m also considering adding Gothic items as well and have some ideas in this direction already.

My questions are this. If you were Boss for a day and could choose absolutely anything you wanted to carry what items would you include in such a store? What things have you looked for in other stores and not been able to find and wish you could? What things do you hate or find to be poor quality? Any ideas will be carefully considered and greatly appreciated. Please feel free to give any suggestions and don’t feel limited in items you might consider right now I’m looking for ideas and I’ll narrow the field later.

Obviously I won’t be including everything but I’d sure like to be able to offer people quality items and a good selection. The area that I am in currently does not have anything close by and the few shops that you can drive to have some items but really have very little. Having talked to many people in this area there seems to be a good customer base for such a store if it existed and based on the way sales picked up when we started to carry such things before the store closed it would seem to bear this out.

Again please let me say thank you for any help or ideas you can give. If you don’t feel comfortable posting here please feel free to message me privately.

Thanks so much,
Bob

need bus in west africA

Hello everyone and happy holidays! A few of you may have already heard our big news, but we wanted you all to hear it straight from us:

APHRODESIA WILL TOUR GHANA AND WEST AFRICA IN FEBRUARY!!!
Yes, it's true. The African Showboyz (perhaps some of you caught our set with them at the Earthdance Festival in September) have invited us to tour Ghana, Togo, Benin and possibly Burkina Faso and Nigeria with them for one month. The tour is being booked now, and we have also just been invited to play the Africa Unite Festival (Bob Marley's 61st birthday celebration, produced in part by the Marley family: www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHome...rtikel.php in Accra and Kumasi, Ghana on Feb 3 and 5.
We are also arranging to travel in a biodiesel bus, helping to showcase and promote this alternative fuel in a part of the world that has been devastated by the environmental and social effects of the petroleum industry.
The chance to travel and play music and learn from the land that has inspired so much of our music is incredibly exciting and mind-boggling for us. The fact that we may be able also to help promote alternative energy in West Africa while doing it makes it all seem almost too good to be true....and in a way it is, because there's one catch:

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
We are in the process of raising the funds to help us make it to Ghana, and we have set up a donation page on our website-
www.aphrodesia.org/GonnagotoGhana.htm
Every little bit helps, so please consider us when you're making your lists and checking them twice....
Large donations can be tax-deductible through the Clean Fuel Caravan Coalition, please write us about that if you are interested. We are also soliciting sponsorships from sustainable businesses- if you are interested in that or know anyone who is, please write us about that too (contact@aphrodesia.org).

You can also, of course, help us by coming to any of our upcoming shows- www.aphrodesia.org/iastic.htm - including this Friday at the Elbo Room in SF, Dec 30 at the Anon Salon/String Cheese Incident party in SF, and NYE in Humboldt County at the Mateel Community Center!

What, you want more news? That wasn't enough? Sheesh!
All right, we've got brand new sweatshop-free t-shirts! Help us show everyone how cool they (and you) are by becoming an Aphrodesia celebrity model here (don't worry, it's easy)!!- www.aphrodesia.org/celebmodel.htm

We've got some cool new photos from some recent shows, and from a very funny night in a San Diego laudramat....

how many people on here currently live in a bus?

i am just curious how many people here currently live in a bus. what is a situation like?

i have had 3 different places in the last 15 months and i am very happy and settled now. i found a place with this awesome guy and 3 weeks later he told me he was selling his house and buying a new one next to his ex so the kids could be closer all the time. so i moved with him to his new house and it is awesome. now i have a nice little yard of my own fenced with bamboo fencing. i have a carport behind my bus so i can use that for extra space and outdoor fun during the rainy season here in cali (which isnt very long, thankfully!). i am parked under several big bushy trees and the bus is shaded all day! it is perfectly cool in there and it was 80 degrees today! in all of my other places, it got very very hot in there. i am thrilled about that factor! and it is in the little neighborhood that has a country feel to it but it is only 4 blocks from downtown (as much of a downtown a town with 7,700 people can have). i guess i am feeling especially thrilled about it today and had to post. i am so happy that it is cool. that is the biggest drawback in my mind about living in a bus- the heat!

so how does everyone else like their spots?

Free Internet Wi-Fi Hot Spots are real common these days & I can pretty much park my car in most areas of Portland & surf the Net on my laptop. But being inside a basically box of steel tends to make the signal drop in & out. The Bus I'm sure will be even worst. I know they exist cause I've seen them on Semi's before but can't seem to find them anywhere online. Does anyone know where I can buy a real Wi-Fi Antenna? Oh I could make one of them stupid hack pringos can wi-fi contraption but that wouldn't last long on the roof of my bus. So anyone, any idea? Do most of you just use coffee shops?

Revolutionary nomadic tribe

I'm starting a nomadic tribe, intended to both demonstrate alternatives to mainstream society and promote the widespread sharing of information on tribalism, biocentric ideas, and the threat of society. I'm looking for good people interested in a somewhat minimalist tribe to travel nationaly or globaly, supporting each other through non-mainstream paths like art and music, and working to spread some of the messages that a modern destructive society needs so desperately to hear. I'd like to create a truly tribal experience, and I think that there's a lot of fun to be had and good things to be accomplished. Knowledge of tribalism, life sciences, and social problems a plus, but not neccesary, there's plenty for all of us to learn. Knowledge of tribalism, life sciences, and social problems a plus, but not neccesary, there's plenty for all of us to learn. No hard drugs, alchoholism, sexism, racism, or negative lifestyles/behaviors please.

Like to explore a new path together? I'd love to hear from you.

We are looking for someone to drive a car (Volvo) back from Toronto to Nelson, BC, Kootenay Valley. It can happen anywhere from NOW (August 18th) until Sept 9th. They must be reliable and trustworthy with a Valid Drivers license, as they will be driving it across Canada without us. If they can pay for the gas, I will reimburse their gas fees if they are willing to drive from Toronto to Nelson Area. Please contact Tom: featherarrow@yahoo.ca in T.O. or my email above...or call me (in the Kootenays) and leave a message! Reason for this being is Tom has gotten a job teaching over seas and cannot come back here in Time and get himself to Czech Republic (he is with his father right now in TO) and I need our car back. I cannot get to TO to drive it back here due to work, etc…

Call me 1-250-355-2209

Or if you are in TO please stop by and chat with Tom, 190 Leslie Street, TO, M4M 3C7 or email him (above).

an adventure called life

Our family is moving into a 29' trailer and will be living nomadically in and around the Eugene/Springfield area.

What we are looking for is a place, or several places to park. We want to be welcomed for a day or two or three at a time (once a week, once a month, or one time only) on some land and we want to give an equal energy exchange ... it could be money (particularly if we hook up to water/power), but preferably work trade.

We love the Eugene area and I have a stable job with Lunar Logic. We are a part of the Eugene Saturday Market Community (Bramble & Fern ... Magical Forest Friends, Hip Happy Hoops), the UnSchooling and Homeschooling comunity (including the Cabaret of Unschooled Actors - theater troupe), and the Unitarian Universalist community. We want to have a certain mobility in location and at the same time contribute to the rootedness of the broader community.

We've got 2 dogs ... they're nice and very people friendly, but they're still dogs ... a chocolate lab and a mutt (Aussie Shepherd/Blue Heeler). We've got cables for them and will keep them leashed as needed and in the trailer at night if needed

What we don't want is to be a burden on anybody. We don't want to be a charity case that causes resentment to grow. We don't want to invade somebody's space.

Instead. we want our visits to be seen as a positive gain for the land and the people who reside there. We are happy with who we are as a
